16th International Summer School “NATIONAL ENERGY AND CLIMATE PLANS 2021-2030”: Successfully finished!

The 16th International Summer School “NATIONAL ENERGY AND CLIMATE PLANS 2021-2030” gathered 21 selected young professionals and 15 lecturers from eleven countries of Europe in small city Vitez (Bosnia and Herzegovina). This year the Summer School brought hybrid format and was held onsite (in the sustainable complex of Čardaci in Vitez) and online (on digital platforms). After 18 months of pandemic this was one of the first opportunities for organizers, lecturers and participants to meet in person, exchange thoughts and plan future projects. The Summer School was entirely dedicated to key dimensions of the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) of Energy Union. During nine days, young professionals improved their knowledge of energy and climate planning through various in-class and online lectures, group work, site visits, outdoor and social activities.

 „This Summer School was an excellent learning opportunity. During the programme we had part of highly professional lectures, group sessions, joint projects and study visits to renewable energy facilities technologies in village Cardaci, DRIN Fojnica and Prokoško Lake, friendly atmosphere and very nice people. Apart from the professional experience in the field of energy and climate changes, the programme gave me the motivation to think more about what sustainability is and how I can be a part of it“, said participant Ana Puscasu from Moldova.

During the official closing of the Summer School, the participant Marko Ilić from Montenegro shared his experience: “My expectations were fully met, moreover, exceeded. Renowned teachers passed on knowledge to us with a proactive approach, and they didn’t create a sense of boredom in any moment. The organizers are a special part, along with the participants and the best on this whole adventure”.

The Summer School was organized in period of August 19-28, 2021, by Regional Education and Information Centre for sustainable development in South East Europe – REIC in collaboration with the Central European Initiative (CEI), German Development Cooperation – GIZ Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe (Antenna in Sarajevo). The Summer School is a project that has been implementing since 2005. So far, the Summer School has been attended by about 400 young people who are educated and professionally active in the field of sustainable development, environmental protection and climate change.
