Regional Education and Information Centre for Sustainable Development in SEE (REIC) until now has organised five Summer Schools. The first Summer School related to the “Sustainable Development and Environmental Integration in a European Prospective” was held in Cervia, Italy from 5-16/ 09, 2005. The second Summer School entitled “Environmental Integration in Territorial Management and Planning” was held in Sarajevo, BiH and Nature Park Lonjsko Polje, Croatia from 28/ 08 – 10/ 09, 2006. The topic of the third summer school was "Social and environemntal aspects related to building and operating of energy facilities" held in Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and National park Djerdap (Serbia). The fourth and fifth summer schools (2008 and 2009) were held in Fojnica in BiH, umbrella topic was “Renewable energy and Energy Efficiency in South East Europe”. Each of the last two schools had focus on some specific issues within umbrella topic.

Concept

The summer school for 2010 is thematically dedicated to renewable energy and energy efficiency and its role in achieving sustainable development and especially in fighitng air pollution and climate change effectively together.  Both environmental and social aspects of using renewable energy and impoving of energy efficiency will be considered. The summer school aims at deepening and expanding sectoral knowledge though multidisciplinary approach offering comprehensive and innovative methods of work and approaches in solving of obstacles in introducing and using renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. Lecturers will be leading experts in the region in the remevant fields, coming from universities, relevant govermental bodies and in-field non-govermental organisation from Europe.  .

Goals

• Educational support to young researchers from the region on renewable energy and energy efficiency issues

• Enhacement of interdisciplinary approach to sustainable energy issue,

• Capacity building of renewable energy and energy efficiency promotion on the regional level as an element  of sustainable developemnt in the region ,

• Enhacement of dissemination of information on potentials of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the region

Simultaneous events

Space for presentation of manufacturing and consultancy companies, non-governmental organization and others will be provided during the Summer school.
