XI SUMMERSCHOOLON ADVANCED ENERGX 2015
So far, REIC organized 10 (ten) two weeks’ international summer schools on sustainable development in 2005 – 2014 period. The main partners and donors on organization of the school were UNESCO Venice Office, GIZ, UNDP, CEI, Dutch Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ministry of education of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ministry of environmental and tourism of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and other minor donors, mostly domestic private enterprises. From year to year REIC has been managing to provide more donors what is obvious proof of quality of the school.
Both environmental and social aspects of using renewable energy and energy efficiency improvement will be considered. Social benefits (job creation, energy security improvement and environmental benefits) of using of RES and EE improvement will be analysed. Objectives of the summer school are:
– Educational support to students in the field of RES and EE
– Enhancement of interdisciplinary approach to sustainable energy issue,
– Dissemination of best practice on energy conservation and renewable energy
– Capacity building of renewable energy promotion on the regional level as an elements of sustainable development in the region,
– Enhancement of dissemination of information on potentials of RES and EE using a common platform
– Build up a network among the young professionals.
Targeted participants are final year master students and PhD students essentially from South East Europe countries. It will be dealt with energy issues from different aspects (social, economy and technical). Trainers will be experts in the field of local energy planning from the involved countries and Western Europe.
The focus of the 11th Summer School will be on local energy planning and development using applicable software. In practical part of the assignment, participants will make energy plans for a selected local community covering energy in buildings, services and transport. Several scenarios of energy mix and energy intensity of selected community will be analysed aiming cost-effective reduction of GHG emission. Energy plan will be developed using model LEAP. The objective of this practical work is to demonstrate role of energy planning in Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP).
Few selected trainers will be present during the whole summer school teaching participants how to do local energy planning aiming to support sustainable development. A significant attention will be given to the technology transfers proposing models and examples also taking into account the development of private sectors (SMEs in particular).
To be more engaged at the beginning, students will have to prepare a short presentation which will indicate some key energy data from their country. REIC will prepare a template and guidelines how to prepare this presentation. The presentation shall be submitted at least one week before the proposed start of the school. In addition, the students will present their research at the beginning of the school. Those data will partly be used during the school.

URBAN EMPATHY aims at building a “Network of Networks” as an open multilevel capitalization space, to create synergies amongst networks & projects to disseminate & transfer their results towards the development of sustainable urban models.
Urban Territorial Cooperation projects demonstrate that there are still a lot of disparities in the application of European directives in the Mediterranean space, in the articulation of different EU funds & in the implementation of successful results, especially in the field of urban sustainability. URBAN EMPATHY directly addresses the need to guarantee the long term impact of results by consolidating a permanent structure, bringing together projects, EU initiatives, policy makers & stakeholders within the Territorial Cooperation Space. The project aims at convincing them of the high potential of articulating territorial cooperation projects with the elaboration & experimentation of efficient and innovative urban policies to deeply transform and adapt Mediterranean cities to the climatic, environmental and socio-economic challenges. URBAN EMPATHY will also promote a Med. sustainable urban model at European level and to ensure its consideration in the new programming period.
URBAN EMPATHY aims at consolidating a permanent structure bringing together projects, policy makers & stakeholders to share concrete results to improve the efficiency of sustainable urban policies in the Mediterranean ensuring their consideration in the new programming period. This will ensure the long-term impact of the capitalized project’s deliverables by the direct involvement of decision makers & key actors, facilitating the integration of these results in sustainable urban policies. The project will also aim to improve the coordination between the Mediterranean Transnational Cooperation programme and the regional operational programmes through the development of a set of propositions that focus on how to better promote the
implementation and development of Urban Sustainable Models, to be included in the next programming period calls. In order to ensure the sustainability of the project and the mainstreaming of the different results, URBAN EMPATHY will strengthen, enlarge and consolidate the existing Platform and Cluster for Sustainable Urban Models building a “Network of Networks” as an open multilevel capitalization space. This will promote the development of synergies between projects & partners helping them to disseminate & transfer their results towards the development of sustainable urban models.
Lead partner for URBAN EMPATHY is the Malaga City Council while other partners of the project are:
Project coordinator for Bosnia and Herzegovina is Vedad Suljić ( firstname.lastname@example.org)
